It has been a year since I’ve written and recorded this song and I think the best way to celebrate its timely message is to sing and record it one more time. Mandrigma’y Makata was composed for the trailer of “Ang Makata’y Mandirigma, Ang Mandirigma’y Makata”, a Filipino musical which was also released on DVD. You can check out the video trailer here and the DVD at kodao.org.
This is the original rock orchestra rendition of Awit ng Pag-asa I wrote for the epilogue of “Ang Makata’y Mandirigma, Ang Mandirigma’y Makata”. “Ang Makata’y Mandirigma, Ang Mandirigma’y Makata” musical director Rica Palis and production manager Walkie Miraña fused the music I created for the musical’s final chapter with libretto of Edward Perez and parts of the progressive song “Pagbabalikwas”. In 2005 I made a piano and guitar rendition of Sierra Madre, a song in the 2003 album Anak ng Bayan composed by the group Musikang Bayan.
Patalastas is my first original musical score. Recorded in 2003, this short composition was an attempt to familiarize myself with digital audio and multi-track editing. The process I was following then was a very crude one. In fact, I used Adobe Premiere 6, a video editing software to arrange my compositions that year. Everything changed after bumping into Cakewalk in 2004. :-)
