Helping people help themselves is a short thematic video about the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center, an organization committed to empowering communities in facing and coping up with disasters. Written and directed by Karl Ramirez featuring CDRC’s public information staff Angie Isla-Odilao. Alagaan ang Kalikasan, the song used in the video was written, arranged and performed by Karl Ramirez for CDRC’s radio program in Veritas.

It was also mentioned in the article Remembering ‘Ondoy’ and preparing for the worst published in The Manila Times.

Ondoy: Isang Balik-Tanaw event was also highlighted by the launch of “Helping people help themselves,” a short thematic video on volunteerism, and on empowering communities in facing and coping up with disasters. It is written and directed by Karl Ramirez featuring his song “Alagaan ang Kalikasan.”

Forging Empowered Communities is about the good practices and lessons learned in CDRC’s disaster preparedness projects all over the country. Produced by the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC), a non-government organization that pioneered and continues to promote community-based disaster management in the Philippines, this project was made possible through partnership with the Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and the German Federal Foreign Office.

This short video is about Dr. Judy Taguiwalo, an activist social worker since the First Quarter Storm and a political detainee during Martial Law. I did the editing, and Cindy Cruz-Cabrera together with class WD211 took care of collecting the materials needed for the production. The video was shown before she presented her dissertation “Babae, Obrera, Unyonista” in August 2007.

Prometheus Bound was produced by Agham (Advocates of Science and Technology for the People) and the Science for Society Program of the College of Science, University of the Philippines Diliman.

  • The film dissects how despite the numerous advances in science and technology, the country’s capacity and economy remains backward. And how the science and technology community struggles in advocating science and technology for the majority of the Filipino people.

I was the editor and shared some tasks with the camera in Pulitika ng Masa, a BikolXPress documentary.

  • Politics of the people, politics advocating the interest of the people. Advocating change for the interest of the people. The documentary introduces the six progressive partylists advocating the politics of the people: Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela Women’s Party, Migrante Partylist, Suara Bangsamoro, and the Anak ng Bayan Partylist (now the Kabataan Partylist). Five of the partylists participated for the first time in the 2004 elections. This was the second partylist elections participated by Bayan Muna.

This is the third thematic video I made about Agham-Youth (AY), an organization I am a member of since 1999. This was created in 2002 using Adobe Premiere 6 and a Pentium III laptop. The song used in the video came from the album Rosas ng Digma.

It was in 2000 when I created my first video for AY. It was an animated mix of Agham-Youth and First Quarter Storm photos rocking to the beat of Rage Against the Machine’s Guerilla Radio.
